He was from Milan (19th century), and his main book, "I promessi sposi" is a masterpiece in Italian literature: it's about 17th century in Milan and places around, and about the difficulties of a young couple in marrying. The lake of Como, not far from Milan, is one of the places described by Manzoni. Nowadays many vips live there, football players, Hollywood stars, etc.
This video "Oh! What a girl!" by Simply Red, it was filmed in these zones I was writing about, called Brianza (around these lakes). The singer, Mich Hucknall, lives in Milan, as he married a woman from here (she's a lawyer, I've got her telephone number :)
